My name is Alyssa Turner. I usually only write things within only 280 characters or less so this might be a little out of my comfort zone, but hey a wise person once told me that adventure lies at the outside of your comfort zone.
Ever since I was younger I had dreams of making it big in hockey. At the time I wanted to play for Team Canada in the Olympics. As time went on I found a love for enjoying sports on social media, specifically Twitter. When I was about 17 years old I told myself that I would work for a professional hockey team one day. Now I am a 22 year old who had the pleasure of working for the Toronto Furies of the CWHL last season.
Working for the Toronto Furies was a true dream come true. Actually though, my dream of working for a professional hockey team had come true. Sadly the CWHL folded in May of 2019 due to financial reasons, heart broken and in distraught I was unsure where I would go from here. I was hired by Humber College Athletics to be their social media specialist for the 2019-20 school year. Now about 6 months into this role I have loved every minute of it. I have covered numerous sports; from baseball, to badminton and everything in between. It’s been an absolute crazy ride so far.
Although working for Humber has been nothing but incredible I was missing covering hockey, specifically women’s hockey. I had been picking up some freelance gigs from time to time but nothing was consistent like it used to be, and let me tell you do I ever miss it.
